Val Thorens

[Home] [Alpe d'Huez] [Avoriaz] [Folgarida] [Niederau] [Sansicario] [Val d'Isere] [Val Thorens]

Tour Operator : Crystal, Chalet : Patrice (designed by ken for barbie)

This ranks right up there with Avoriaz for me. The ski area is vast with a lot of variation. The town is a reasonable size (if only we were nearer the supermarket for beer).
There were a few beginners with us on this trip and this resort has something for all levels.

I must give special mention to the lift systems. Not only was there a good ratio of lifts (tows should be banned), but they were very efficient. I would thoroughly recommend this resort to anyone.

As for the accommodation : these chalets are brand new but built with the 'pack em in' mentality. They are not by any stretch of the imagination chalets. They are flats with a designated kitchen / living room area. As for the bedrooms - ensure that you are friendly with your room mate and take shin guards.

If you opt for a catered 'Chalet' then beware that you don't get our reps from hell. We think they were on a world crusade to save food not to mention the lack of personality. The other guests shared this opinion !

Summary

I would go back to this resort no problem but Crystal have joined Equity on our list of no-nos. Pity as previous reps were excellent - I did email them about this but received no reply.

Uppers - Skiing is superb. Good all round for everyone. Even when busy queues moved quickly. High at 1800m.

Downers - Small Chalet, Food, Appartments, Food (lack of).
